What is UK Dementia Congress?
UK Dementia Congress https://journalofdementiacare.co.uk/events/uk-dementiacongress is one of the world’s premier two-day events and exhibitions to immerse yourself in learning, sharing and being inspired about dementia. Now in its 18th year, UK Dementia Congress is a multi-disciplinary event that brings people together from healthcare, social care and academia together with individuals living with dementia and family carers to find fresh energy and enthusiasm for the very best in dementia care innovations and practices.

This year Dementia Community https://careroadshows.co.uk/history-of-dementiacommunity/ brings UK Dementia Congress to Coventry for the first time, hosted by the Coventry Building Society Arena. Do join us, taking advantage of our early bird delegate discount if booking before 20 September, by clicking here: https://registration.allintheloop.net/register/event/the-18th-uk-dementia-congresst60a

Championing lived experience and equality, diversity and inclusion
All of our abstract speakers, workshop providers and poster presenters are required to demonstrate how they have incorporated both lived experience and the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion into their work.

These contributions provide us with an outstandingly rich and diverse programme that includes work happening in both the UK and the wider world, and we combine this extensive programme with some headline speakers and sessions.

What can I expect from the 2024 UK Dementia Congress?
As ever, we are delighted to open UK Dementia Congress with support from experts by experience – people living with dementia and family carers.

Our keynote speakers include Dr Jeremy Isaacs, National Clinical Director for Dementia and OPMH, Graham Galloway, CEO and Ron Coleman, chair of Meeting Centres Scotland to talk about the new Dementia Strategy for Scotland, and Mary Cridge, Director of Adult Social Care, to talk about CQC’s developing dementia strategy.

We will also have key sessions from our Academic Partner, the Association for Dementia Studies, University of Worcester and our Congress Partner, Alzheimer’s Society.

Igniting debate
The prestigious Tom Kitwood Memorial Address is entitled, ‘Whose reality is foremost? Can lying be used to support personhood?’ and will feature a wide ranging panel and audience discussion on this thought-provoking topic.

We’ll also explore the new BPS guidelines that use the term ‘Behaviour that challenges’ and ask the question: ‘Is this acceptable to all, including people living with dementia?’ Alongside this, we’ll debate the hard world of fundraising and ask: ‘How should dementia be characterised when the aim is to raise money?’

You’re guaranteed a warm welcome
Whether you’re a seasoned UK Dementia Congress attendee or considering joining us for the first time, be assured you’ll be warmly welcomed. You will find our two days of learning, sharing and inspiring result in fresh ideas, new contacts and renewed momentum in your quest to provide the very best dementia care.
